I did a thing

My blender went nuts and started making 3D models instead of smoothies. Surprisingly, Blender runs much better with Linux without graphic drivers than with Windows with drivers.
It’s a revolver that can hold two bullets within the barrel, the frame, the barrel, the trigger and the hammer are seperate objects, theoretically one could add an animation to them.
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 5, 2016 at 12:42 pm #9352Looks sick, is it going in your mod, or is it the RR game, or something else

October 5, 2016 at 12:57 pm #9353Idk, I want to hear Rodol’s opinion.
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 5, 2016 at 4:08 pm #9356Nice proportions! I would like to see wireframe, or as modelers call it, “show me the wires”!
Constructive Criticism:
Its missing a face under the revolving part, the smaller cylinder under the barrel of the gun could also have less sides and still look fine in a game. I like how you resolved the connection between the handle and the rest of the gun, that quarter cylinder with the bevel. (Well it actually looks like you used inset and then pulled the face out, but the result is similar :P)
Destructive Criticism:
I don’t like guns that fire bullets :P
Tip: you can get nicer renders by setting the shading to smooth and then putting a bevel modifier on the objects with some high-ish number of divisions, and you can also use blender’s node-based shader tools to get some really cool effects. Metal usually uses two glossy shaders with different roughnesses, and wood usually uses a musgrave texture with stretched coordinates to vary the darkness of the wood, and the actual shading uses a glossy shader for laminated wood mixed with a diffuse shader for the grain (all wood). But thats a whole other topic and skill that is not necessary for making game models :P

October 5, 2016 at 5:17 pm #9359One thing I love more than guns, are guns. I bought autodesk or CAD and itnwas worth it I believe it is better than blender(or is it more advanced?) But I would use autodesk.
All of your bas are belong to us.
October 6, 2016 at 12:17 am #9365So, I fixed the missing face and added a hole to the barrel (note that the first picture does not have the missing face fixed)
I triangulated most of the faces which I made myself (without extruded faces/faces initially made from only two edges, see the handle’s curve), that’s why it has about 1.4k tris. The wireframe mode does not show the triangulated faces, so I made yet another picture in edit mode where the tris are visibile.
Also, about the bullet thing: These aren’t regular bullets, they weigh more than 3.5 times more than a regular .357 bullet, thus delivering 3.5 times more force (that’s how it woks, right?) made from a material which causes radiation poisoning and loss of sight.
The bullets have such a high level of detail because they are intended to be used in the reload animation (and there is no speedloader, our rebel has to fiddle those insanely heavy bullets into the barrel, good thing there are only two bullets), I could crank the tries down if you needed a worldmodel without animations.
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 6, 2016 at 5:46 am #9367Wow looks pretty impressive well done Hbm
Discord:FrostiFur Whyler#2044 Twitter/Telegram:@FrostiFurOctober 6, 2016 at 11:44 am #9368(I would love to apply a texture to it, but I don’t know how to properly use seams/how to create an UV that is not completely distorted/how to create an UV that contains more than only one object.)
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 6, 2016 at 3:24 pm #9372Are you asking how to add more than one UV map to one mesh?
October 7, 2016 at 6:48 am #9375No, I mean projecting all objects onto the same UV map.

October 7, 2016 at 3:04 pm #9382Pretty cool HBM
October 8, 2016 at 11:12 am #9387I want to make another model, but I figured out that I suck at designing anything.
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 8, 2016 at 11:20 am #9388“I can’t do anything wring with a rocket launcher” It’s a crappy tube.
Also Rodol, the login system is weird, I can’t log in permanently because when I click login it automatically logs me in without username/password.
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 8, 2016 at 1:36 pm #9389Can you please elaborate about the login? I need specifics, its very important to me. We recently switched servers and activated SSL.
⋰⋮RODOL⋮⋱October 8, 2016 at 1:54 pm #9390You dont suck man…
You are very good in blender, i just started to use it and really, i suck at it
October 8, 2016 at 2:27 pm #9391@Rodol
whats SSL?
October 8, 2016 at 2:32 pm #9392I have to log in everytime I visit the site, as if I didn’t check the “stay logged in” box. The problem is that this box is unreachable because everytime I click “log in”, instead of bringing me to the login screen (where I enter user, passwd and the little checkbox), it instantly logs me in. Fix pls.
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 8, 2016 at 2:51 pm #9393Yea, the revolver does look way better than I expected it to be, but a revolver is “complex out of simple shapes” making it easier for me. Everything I tried to make myself/make with little to no reference looked structureless, flat and ugly.
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 8, 2016 at 6:43 pm #9394Is this happening in any browser in particular?
Can you make a screenshot of which login button/form you are using? (Is it the one at the top bar to the right where the user avatar usually is?)
Does you browser accept cookies?
Are you behind a school firewall/vpn? (do you have trouble in other sites too?)
Thanks a lot
⋰⋮RODOL⋮⋱October 8, 2016 at 6:45 pm #9395SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the website and browsers cannot be changed or observed in transit by someone between your computer and the website server.
SSL activated sites have a green lock to the left of the URL address bar in the browser. Rival Rebels now has one :)
⋰⋮RODOL⋮⋱October 8, 2016 at 8:26 pm #9396YAY, that means all the data of the site is protected much better now?
October 9, 2016 at 7:31 am #9399It only happens in the RR forum, I use google chrome (with chrome on my phone or on windows it works just fine, chrome on Linux is having this problem) and I log in with the button on the top right. Firewall is set to default and there is no restricted network/VPN.
Sometimes, I dream about cheese.October 9, 2016 at 2:20 pm #9400Hey, I confirmed the bug in Firefox Ubuntu, the browser keeps you logged in but it wont display correctly until you click a link or something in the site. For some reason the browser cookies are wrong or confused, so the only way to fix it is at your end by deleting the RR cookie cached on your browser. That fixed the issue for me. Please tell me if that fixes it for you. Thanks!
