i want to make a texture pack but its kinda hard when all the files are named random letters.

To Trolmon, are you making your texture pack from scratch by organizing Jpegs or using a tool? for sounds you would use oggs

you cant make a texture pack
but you can edit the models

im assuming thats what you mean

to do that i would just open a random one and see if its the one ur looking for and if its not then try anouther

You can also replace exsiting files in a previously made Resource Pack.
